Yelan Best Build Guide – Genshin Impact

Welcome! This Guide will cover every aspect of Yelan build in Genshin Impact. Talent, Weapons, Artifacts, Constellations, Team Comps, etc.

Yelan Overview – Genshin Impact Guide

Yelan is a Hydro-element hybrid character with both high damage and support capabilities. She can deal Hydro-element damage to enemies through her Elemental Skill “Lifeline” which marks enemies, and through her Elemental Burst “Exquisite Throw” she can continuously assist the team in dealing high-frequency Hydro-element damage. During the duration of the Elemental Burst, she gradually increases the damage dealt by the team.

Talent Analysis Yelan – Genshin Impact Guide

Talent Priority – Genshin Impact Yelan Guide

Elemental Burst > Elemental Skill > Normal Attack

Yelan’s core skill is to use the team’s normal attacks to trigger Hydro-elemental synergy attacks after using her Elemental Burst, and to increase the damage dealt by the team with her passive talent #2. Before unlocking her 6th constellation, it is recommended to upgrade the Elemental Burst and Elemental Skill. After reaching full constellation, upgrade the Normal Attack to increase the damage dealt by “Breakthrough Barb” (Recommended level 1/8/8 or above for non-full constellation, 9/9/9 or above for full constellation).

Normal Attack

Genshin Impact Guide Yelan Normal Attack

  1. The normal attack consists of 4 hits with a total of 5 damages. The 4th hit causes 2 damages and has a larger post-attack animation, while the rest of the hits cause 1 damage each.
  2. The charged attack (heavy attack) and “Breakthrough Barb” (including the effect of the 6th constellation) both have weak Hydro-elemental application (1 gauge unit aura, 9.5 seconds).

Elemental Skill (E)

Genshin Impact Guide Yelan Elemental Skill

  1. Long-pressing the Elemental Skill enters Yelan into a continuous sprint state, which increases her movement speed. This state does not affect stamina recovery and provides an excellent experience in exploring the open world. By using this feature, players can choose to dash and run while interspersing with Yelan’s long-pressing Elemental Skill during exploration.
  2. In the continuous sprint state (long press), Yelan can pass through some enemies’ collision volume, such as slimes, hilichurls, and Fatuus.
  3. The “Lifeline” attack has weak Hydro-elemental application, and each hit can apply an elemental aura(1 gauge unit, 9.5s).
  4. After hitting an enemy with the Elemental Skill or long-pressing the Elemental Skill, four Hydro particles will be produced.

Elemental Burst (Q)

Genshin Impact Guide Yelan Elemental Burst

  1. Yelan’s ultimate attack inflicts the Strong Hydro element Application (1 Gauge Unit Aura, 9.5s) and subsequent cooperative attacks inflict the Weak Hydro element Application.
  2. Cooperative attacks follow the rule of “applying elemental application every two attacks within 2.5 seconds when hitting the same enemy.”
  3. Before unlocking the second passive talent, Yelan’s ability to apply Hydro is inferior to that of Xingqiu(6C). When paired with Hu Tao alone, the enemy’s head will be applied with the Pyro element around the 7th heavy attack, leading to the phenomenon of “reverse labor” (i.e., Hu Tao applies Pyro and Yelan’s ultimate causes Vaporize). This can be optimized by pairing with Xingqiu or unlocking the second passive talent.
  4. Elemental bursts do not have a snapshot mechanism and are calculated based on Yelan’s current stats.
  5. The triggering of Yelan’s cooperative attacks is similar to Xingqiu’s Rain Swords, based on the character’s normal attack animation rather than the attack damage.

PS: The normal attack after Raiden Shogun’s Q (considered as an elemental burst damage but a normal attack animation) and the normal attack after Nilou’s E (considered as an elemental skill damage but a normal attack animation) can also trigger cooperative attacks.

Passive Talent

Genshin Impact Guide Yelan passive talent

Passive talent 1: Increases Yelan’s maximum health and skill damage based on the number of types of elements present in the team.

Passive talent 2:

◆ After unlocking this talent, increases the damage of all characters on the field during the “damage bonus interval,” which is added to elemental/physical damage bonuses.

◆ This damage bonus is not reflected in the character’s stat panel, so skills with snapshot mechanisms will not be affected. This increase applies to all types of damage and increases linearly (following a linear progression of “3.5X+1” where X is the number of seconds). Switching characters does not reset the damage bonus, which will continue to increase until it reaches 50% and stops. It will then reset to zero when Yelan’s elemental burst ends.

【Note】This bonus does not increase the damage of Elemental Reactions (i.e., Swirl, Overload, Electro-Charged, Superconduct, Hyperbloom, Bloom, Burgeon, and Shattered).

Passive talent 3: This talent has the same effect as “Shenhe.”

Additional Information

  1. The Basic Attribute is determined by the different attribute modules in the character skill description, which defaults to ATK, and the others are DEF, HP, and Elemental Mastery, etc.
  2. Catalyze reaction affects the “base multiplier range,” which adds to the product of “basic attribute x multiplier.”
  3. The basic coefficient of Damage Bonus and Critical Damage is 1, and the coefficient sum is “1 + other damage bonus/critical damage percentages.”
  4. Only attacks that trigger Amplification Reactions (vaporize/melt) will have additional amplification coefficients, which default to 1.
  5. Defense coefficient is related to the level of the character and enemies, and Resistance coefficient is related to the enemy’s resistance.

Weapons – Genshin Impact Yelan Guide

Aqua SimulacraHunters PathElegy for the EndPolar StarMouuns MoonFavonius WarbowFading TwilightSlingshot

Weapon selection explanation

  1. When Yelan has not unlocked her first constellation, the first thing to pay attention to is her energy recharge efficiency. After ensuring her ultimate skill is available, then focus on increasing her skill damage. For a team with only Hydro characters, it is recommended to have at least 240% energy recharge, while a team with two Hydro characters can have around 200%.
  2. After unlocking her first constellation, the energy recharge requirement can be lowered. Depending on the situation, you can choose weapons with energy recharge or critical damage/critical rate bonuses.
  3. Since Yelan’s skill damage is based on her HP, weapons with base attack bonuses or passive attack bonuses do not increase her damage output. Additionally, there are few bow and arrow weapons with HP bonuses (currently only Aqua Simulacra and Recurve Bow), so it is recommended to prioritize weapons with critical damage and critical rate bonuses if you want to increase her damage output. This is also the advantage of weapons with low base attack but high critical bonuses, such as Aqua Simulacra and the Hunter’s Path.
  4. The higher the energy recharge requirement, the more recommended it is to prioritize choosing an energy recharge weapon.Conversely, when the energy recharge requirement is low, prioritize weapons with critical ATK/Rate.
  5. When Yelan is used as a support character, it is recommended to use weapons with energy recharge bonuses, such as the Elegy for the End , Fading Twilight or Favonius Warbow. When the energy recharge requirement is lowered through team composition or constellations, you can consider using weapons with damage bonuses, such as Aqua Simulacra, Hunter’s Path, Polar Star, Mouun’s Moon, Fading Twilight, the Stringless, or Slingshot.

Artifact Introduction – Genshin Impact Yelan Guide

Recommended Artifact – Genshin Impact Yelan Guide

Genshin Impact Guide Yelan artifacts

Substats Priority – Genshin Impact Yelan Guide

When Yelan is used as a support character, Priority:

energy recharge >critical rate ≥ critical damage > HP percentage.

When she is used for Hydro damage output, Priority:

critical rate ≥ critical damage > energy recharge > HP percentage.

Artifact selection and attribute explanation – Genshin Impact Yelan Guide

  • When Yelan has no constellations unlocked, it is recommended to have at least 240% energy recharge for a team with one Hydro character, and around 200% for a team with two Hydro characters. After unlocking her first constellation, the energy recharge requirement for a team with one Hydro character can be lowered to 180-200%, and to around 150% for a team with two Hydro characters.
  • When Yelan is used for damage output, it is recommended to have a critical rate of at least 60% and a critical damage bonus of 120%/150% (for non-critical/critical weapons, respectively) when she has no constellations unlocked.
  • When used with two Hydro characters and after unlocking her first constellation, you can increase her critical rate to at least 70% and her critical damage bonus to 140%/180% (for non-critical/critical weapons, respectively).

【Additional Content】Comparison of damage between“Emblem of Severed Fate 4-piece” set and “2-piece Tenacity of the Millelith/2-piece Dydro DMG” set

Genshin Impact Guide Yelan artifact comparison

  • According to the above figure, as the energy recharge requirement decreases, the gap between the damage output of the “Emblem of Severed Fate 4-piece” set and the “2-piece Tenacity of the Millelith/2-piece Dydro DMG” set gradually narrows.
  • This means that it is still recommended to prioritize the Emblem of Severed Fate 4-piece set when the energy recharge is above 200%. When the energy recharge is below 160%, you can consider using the 2-piece Tenacity of the Millelith/2-piece Dydro DMG set to reduce the time needed to obtain the full 4-piece set. After unlocking her sixth constellation, when the energy recharge requirement is below 160%, it is recommended to prioritize the 2-piece Tenacity of the Millelith/2-piece Dydro DMG(for other weapon types, the situation is similar).

Yelan’s Constellation Effects Guide in Genshin Impact

Yelan’s Constellation – Genshin Impact Guide

1 Genshin Impact Guide Yelan Constellation

Damage Expectation Percentage Comparison

Genshin Impact Guide Yelan constellation comparison

Explanation of Constellation Effects – Genshin Impact Yelan Guide

  • With 1 constellation, Yelan can release an extra elemental skill to alleviate energy recharge pressure and increase damage by choosing weapons with high critical damage or the Clock with HP stats.
  • With 2 constellations, Yelan’s elemental burst generates an additional Hydro arrow, which applies a separate Hydro aura and does not share the same elemental reaction as the initial burst. This allows Yelan to apply Hydro aura to enemies on her own, which is useful when paired with Hu Tao’s Pyro aura application.
  • With 4 constellations, hitting enemies with an elemental skill increases the entire team’s HP. The more characters with a “Life” benefit in the party, the greater the constellation’s benefit (e.g. Hu Tao, Xingqiu, Zhongli Yelan).
  • With 6 constellations, after using her elemental burst, Yelan’s normal attacks fire 5 Breakthrough Barbs. Only the first and fourth arrow apply weak Hydro aura(1 Gauge Unit), significantly increasing Yelan’s burst damage.

Overall, Yelan’s energy recharge requirements are high at C0, and decreasing her damage output is necessary to improve energy recharge. With C1, energy recharge is less of an issue, and C2’s additional Hydro arrow can be used in combination with Hu Tao’s Pyro application. With C2, Yelan can also be a main DPS character. Players looking to further increase Yelan’s damage output can consider C6.

Yelan’s Best Team Comps – Genshin Impact Guide

Yelan has both an elemental burst that triggers co-op elemental reactions and an passive talent that provides an all-damage bonus, making her compatible with a variety of party compositions. At C0, she is usually used as a support character with other party members, while at higher constellations (usually C2 and above), she can serve as a main DPS character.

Paired with a Pyro DPS character

① Hu Tao Vaporize Team Comps – Genshin Impact Guide

Hu Tao, Xingqiu, Zhongli, and Yelan

Yelan’s C2 boosts Hu Tao’s damage output and forms a powerful co-op Hydro reaction with Xingqiu’s Hydro effect, making the “Twin Hydros” resonance effect highly effective. When paired with Xingqiu, Yelan can also help Hu Tao deal with the issue of being unable to apply Pyro Aura to enemies with her elemental burst alone.

Hu Tao are recommended to use elemental burst at the end of Yelan’s burst for maximum damage output.

C0 Yelan is recommended to be paired with Xingqiu, which can form the “Twin Hydros” resonance effect and help each other generate energy orbs, reducing the energy recharge pressure of C0 Yelan.

Note: Lithic Spear is recommended over the same-refinement-level Dragon’s Bane in this “4-Liyue” team composition.

It is recommended to choose “Gilded Dreams” or “Shimenawa’s Reminiscence” based on the needs of characters and then synthesize them into the three-in-one “Crimson Witch of Flames” artifact set.

Hu Tao’s recommended critical hit rate is 70% or higher.

Prioritize the HP Clock when paired with “Dragon’s Bane” weapon.

Xingqiu Build

Genshin Impact Team Comps Guide Xingqiu build

  1. Prioritize Xingqiu’s energy recharge: For a single Hydro character with less than 6 constellations, it is recommended to have an energy recharge of 240% or higher, and for a team with two Hydro characters, it is recommended to have around 210%. After unlocking 6 constellations, it is recommended to have an energy recharge of 200-220% for a single Hydro character and 180-200% for a team with two Hydro characters.
  2. Xingqiu’s skill has a long cooldown, so use it first and then wait for it to cool down.
Zhongli Build

Genshin Impact Team Comps Guide zhongli build

  1. For Support Role, prioritize stacking HP to increase shield strength.
  2. For DPS Role, consider choosing weapons and artifacts with dual critical stats.
  3. If using the Favonius Lance, focus on stacking critical hit rate.

② Yoimiya Vaporizing Team Comps

Yoimiya + Yelan+ Zhongli + Bennett/Yun jin

After Yoimiya activates her elemental skill, her normal attacks with Pyro damage have a “counter/counter” application rule that limits the triggering of vaporize on all attacks. This allows even Xingqiu, who is not a Hydro character with a 2-piece set bonus, to cooperate in triggering vaporize without experiencing the “reverse labor” phenomenon.

Combining Zhongli’s resistance reduction with Bennett or Yunjin’s amplification and then using the damage increase mechanism of Xingqiu can improve Yoimiya’s damage output. When choosing between Bennett and Yun jin, consider the needs of the other team in the Spiral Abyss.

Note:

Yelan, in a one Hydro character team, needs to increase her own energy recharge efficiency to optimize her ultimate’s cooldown.

The fourth member of the team with Bennett or Yun jin can also choose Xingqiu to relieve Yelan’s energy recharge pressure.

Substitute for “Zhongli”: Diona, Layla, and Thoma.

Relevant Character Guide

While stacking defense, consider energy recharge attributes to prioritize her ultimate’s cooldown. Recommended to prioritize refining the Kikoukenjintachi.

Recommended energy recharge of 210% or higher.

Raiden Shogun National Team

Raiden Shogun + Yelan + Xiangling + Bennett

Yelan is replaced by Xingqiu mainly to increase Raiden Shogun’s damage output. However, it should be noted that without Xingqiu’s damage reduction effect, there is a possibility of sudden character death when hit by burst attacks such as the Maguu Kenki.

  1. Prioritize weapons with high energy recharge rate, preferably around 270%.
  2. For the artifact set, prioritize the Eelctro DMG “Clock” for the Engulfing Lightning, and for the four-star weapons, consider using an Clock with ATK stats.
  3. Prioritize leveling up the elemental burst skill, followed by the elemental skill. It’s not necessary to level up the normal attack skill (It does not affect the normal attack after using the elemental burst skill).
Xiangling Build

Genshin Impact Team Comps Guide Xiangling build

It is recommended to have Xiangling’s energy recharge efficiency at around 200% in a team of Electro National team.

Her recommended critical hit rate is between 50-65%, and her critical hit damage should be between 120-140%.

Prioritize the “Emblem of Severed Fate” 4-piece set and upgrade her elemental burst and skill.

Double Hydro Combo Team Comps – Genshin Impact Guide

The Hu Tao – Yoimiya combo mentioned earlier with “Xingqiu + Yelan” and the upcoming comps both fall under the category of double hydro combos.

① Ayato Double Hydro Team Comps

Kamisato Ayato + Yelan + Shield Support/Healer + Amplification Character

The double hydro resonance increases not only Yelan’s damage but also Ayato’s normal attack damage after using his elemental skill, which is based on the character’s max HP.

The other two characters in the team should be prioritized as a healer or shield support to improve the overall survivability of the team, and the other character should be an amplification character to increase hydro damage.

Shield support options: Zhongli, Layla, Diona, etc.

▶ Healer options: Jean, Sayu, Yaoyao, etc.

▶ Amplification character options: Bennett (attack Supp and healing), Yun jin (base multiplier Supp), Kazuha (damage bonus Supp and resistance reduction), etc.

When her energy recharge is below 150%, it is recommended to prioritize using the weapon “Xiphos’ Moonlight”.

Prioritize increasing Dyhya’s mastery, then energy recharge, and the weapon “Favonius Sword” needs critical hit rate.

If not using a Anemo DMG-based strategy, there is no need to upgrade her skill.

② Three Hydro Team/Pure Hydro Team Comps – Genshin Impact Guide

Kokomi, Xingqiu, Yelan, Kazuha

Kazuha’s 4-piece set “Viridescent Venerer” enhances Hydro element damage for the entire team by reducing enemy Hydro resistance. Kokomi is often used to trigger Yelan’s cooperative attacks.

Note: Xingqiu should use his skills first because his cooldown time is the longest, followed by Yelan.

③ Yelan Main Carry(High Constellation) Team Comps – Genshin Impact Guide

Yelan, Xingqiu, Kazuha, and Zhongli.

Yelan’s constellation upgrade improves her damage output, and she can choose to output damage while standing on the field with a dual CRIT weapon. After selecting a shield/support character, the fourth character can either increase Hydro damage (such as Kazuha) or choose a background character with significant damage output (such as Fischl).

Note:

  1. After unlocking the 6th constellation, you can also replace Xingqiu with Mona to increase the burst damage of “Breakthrough Barb” .
  2. In addition, there is also the “Vaporize Yelan” gameplay of “Yelan + Mona/High-Pro Nilou + Kazuha + Xiangling”. Pay attention to stacking Xiangling and Mona’s energy recharge efficiency. In addition, High-Pro Nilou can recommended to choose with max constellations (mostly used in speedrunning gameplay).

  2. Prioritize Energy Recharge until it reaches around 200%, then stack Critical Rate, Critical Damage, and Percentage Attack.
Jean Build

Genshin Impact Team Comps Guide Jean Build 1

  1. Prioritize weapons with Attack and Energy Recharge.
  2. When pairing her with Hydro, Pyro, Cryo, or Electro characters, prioritize using a Viridescent Venerer artifact set for its 4-piece effect that reduces enemy resistance.

② Anemo Direct DMG Team Comps – Genshin Impact Guide

Anemo Carrier, Faruzan, Yelan, and a Shielder/Healer

Faruzan’s skill mechanism can increase the damage of Anemo Carrier in terms of base multiplier, damage bonus, critical damage (with 6 constellation), and resistance reduction. Combining with Yelan can further increase the damage bonus of Anemo Carrier. For the fourth character, it is recommended to consider a Shielder or Healer to improve team survivability.

Recommended Anemo Carrier: Wanderer, Xiao, and Shikanoin Heizou

Relevant Character Guide

Prioritize upgrading normal attacks, followed by elemental skill and burst.

Xiao Build

Genshin Impact Team Comps Guide xiao build

All three skills should be upgraded, with normal attack being the top priority (plunge attack). Next, upgrade elemental burst and skill. With 6 constellations, it is recommended to prioritize upgrading the elemental skill.

Recommended artifact stats include stacking attack and critical rate/damage, as well as some elemental recharge.

Faruzan Build

Genshin Impact Team Comps Guide Faruzan Build

The main mechanism of Faruzan is the element burst, priority stacking Energy Recharge to optimize the burst output cycle.

4-piece set of Tenacity of the Millelith can also be considered when 6 constellations unlocked.

③ Geo Direct DMG Team Comps – Genshin Impact Guide

Geo Charrier, Gorou, Albedo or Zhongli, and Yelan

Most Geo DMG teams consist of three Geo characters, with the fourth character choice being more flexible. When there is no need to break the elemental shield, choosing Yanlan can increase the output damage of Geo Carrier. It should be noted that if Yanlan is the only hydro character in the team, it is recommended to stack more energy recharge efficiency.

Recommended Geo DPS carrier: Noelle and Arataki Itto

【Note】The main output method of Arataki Itto is heavy attack, which cannot trigger the elemental burst synergy of Yelan, but can still gain increased damage.

④ The Shogun – Eula Team Comps – Genshin Impact Guide

Raiden Shogun + Eula + Shield Support/Healer + Ningguang

Raiden Shogun provides energy recharge for the whole team, while Eula triggers Superconduct with Raiden Shogun to reduce enemy’s physical resistance, thus increasing Eula’s physical damage. Both Raiden Shogun and Eula’s consecutive attacks can trigger Yelan’s Elemental Resonance and boost damage output. As for the fourth character, consider adding a Shield Support or Healer to improve team survivability.

Common choices for the fourth character: Zhongli, Diona, etc.

Prioritize the critical rate to reach 75% or more to increase the probability of the ultimate move’s critical rate.

Combination of “Sumeru Armed Forces” and Direct Damage Drivers

Nahida, Kuki Shinobu, and Yelan, and “The Driver”

A derivative combination of the “Sumeru National Team/Sumeru Armed Forces”. Yelan can increase the damage of the role on the field through her passive talent 2, and most drivers mainly output through normal attacks, triggering Yelan’s elemental burst co-attack and then apply Hydro aura to trigger elemental reactions.

[Note] Compared to Xingqiu, Yelan has no anti-interruption and damage reduction effects. When entering a bloom team, if there are fewer other means to increase fault tolerance, and when facing high-pressure environments (such as 3.4 Abyss Spiral), there will be a survival problem for the team’s roles. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully consider the “choice” between “Yelan” and “Xingqiu”.

Selection of direct damage “drivers”

  1. Kamisato Ayato: Kamisato Ayato applies Hydro aura in the foreground, while Yelan increases the Hydro elemental damage in the team, and the double Hydro combination can reduce Yelan’s energy recharge pressure.
  2. Cyno: Cyno and Kuki Shinobu form a double thunder resonance, which produces additional energy returns. At the same time, Yelan increases the damage of Cyno’s normal attacks after her ultimate, and cooperates with Nahida to produce Catalyze reactions. This team mostly triggers the super bloom reaction of Cyno, and Kuki Shinobu can stack life properly.
  3. Alhaitham: Yelan increases Alhaitham’s grass elemental damage. It should be noted that Alhaitham and Cyno’s teams do not have anti-interruption and damage reduction effects, so attention should be paid to the rotation when outputting. You can also replace Nahida with Fischl to increase the proportion of intensified reactions in the team. At this time, Alhaitham should prioritize the “Deepwood Memories” 4-piece set.
  4. In addition to the above direct damage drivers, Nahida can also consider direct field output. At this time, the fourth person can consider choosing Fischl to increase the team’s damage. Other Anemo and Cryo elemental roles, such as Shikanoin Heizou and Eula, can also be considered for combination gameplay.
