Layers of Fear 3 Walkthrough & Guide
“Layers of Fear 3”, also known as “Layers of Fear 2023”, is the latest work in the Layers of Fear series that follows the name of the classic generation. This is a first-person horror RPG game. The main gameplay of the game is to explore and solve puzzles, and the battle scenes are mostly about fighting against ghosts. The ultimate goal is to overcome fear and survive. Slightly different from the previous game, this generation of games consists of 4 different short stories, namely painter’s story, daughter’s story, musician’s story and the actor’s story. These story scripts have been expressed in the previous two generations, but this time the experience will be completely different. The ending of the game will link the stories of the first two generations of “Layers of Fear”, give players a conclusive answer, and finally find the hidden truth behind this series of stories.

Prologue: House – Layers of Fear 2023 Walkthrough & Guide
After the game starts you will come to the lighthouse.
Start by interacting with the lighter and photo near the typewriter before leaving the house.
Explore a block-circular hallway, where you can enter some rooms, and some rooms have locked doors.
Investigate the letters, photos and notes in these rooms.
Get out of here after interacting with the note on the vanity in the bathroom.
In the corridor, you will hear the ringing of the phone. After interacting, you will learn that the heroine is a writer.
Next, find the wooden steps on the upper and lower levels of the hallway, and investigate the note near the generator in the basement and the note near the blocked spiral staircase to the top of the tower.
After completing the above interactions, return to the corridor again, come to the room where the game started, and interact with the typewriter.
Afterwards you will hear a loud noise outside the house.
Go to the hallway again, and observe a door that you couldn’t open before, and it has opened automatically at this time.
Enter the room, interact with the canvas, and leave the room.
After reaching the corridor again, the protagonist wants to call his son, interact with the phone here, and watch the plot.
Finally, go back to the room where the typewriter is, interact with the typewriter again, and you will enter the next chapter.
Chapter 1: Canvas – Layers of Fear 2023 Walkthrough & Guide
You will wake up from the painter’s house, which is the story scene of “Layers of Fear 1”.
Investigate the letters and some trinkets nearby, then push open the glass door and enter the living room.
The next thing you need to do is find key rooms and items.
Read the letter in the corner here and you’ll know where the key is.
Next, investigate the nearby rooms, first the kitchen and bathroom, and then the downstairs basement.
Then investigate the upstairs area and interact with the sheet music on the piano, and you’ll cause a thunderclap.
Enter the painter’s room and examine the notes and journals in the room.
Go into another nearby room and examine the drawers here on the work desk.
You can find a key from the drawer.
Next, you can investigate a nearby baby room, where you’ll find even more collection notes and clues.
After completing the exploration of all the rooms upstairs and downstairs, go to the locked room upstairs.
Use the key to open the door, inside you will find a canvas.
Interact with this canvas to move on to the content of the next chapter.
Chapter 2: Base – Layers of Fear 2023 Walkthrough & Guide
After entering this chapter, pay attention to the changes in the room, and you will start to create illusions and explore the painter’s home in your imagination.
Pay attention to the black prompts on some walls, they can provide valuable clues for your exploration.
Keep exploring along the road, past hallways and some living room rooms.

Here in the bookcase, you will collect the first oil painting fragment.
Continue to explore, pay attention, don’t be fooled by hallucinations, you will pass through many similar rooms, but in fact they will have some subtle changes every time.
When you come to a room with a locked treasure chest, the original wooden door will be locked automatically. You need to turn 360 degrees to find the intercommunicating door on the heating wall.
Go through this door, and you will come to a room with the same mirror image. Pay attention to the portrait on the wall. At this time, there will be an extra key in the portrait’s hand.
Pick up this key, then return to the original room, open the box, pick up important notes and clues, and the plot is upgraded.
Go through the next door, past a row of rooms.
Open one of the doors and you’ll see green paint on the ground again.
After entering this room, when you interact with the paintings on the wall, you will hallucinate and lose consciousness.
After waking up again, you will be in a dark basement.
Interact once with the light key on the wall to get the new wooden door in the distance.
Keep going and use the wooden ladder to reach the upper level.
Pull down the wooden pole in the next room to get a new path.
Then you will encounter various warning signs on the road, a powerful demon is approaching you.
Go into the next room and interact with the red candles near the three paintings on the wall here (white mouse, white horse, and white fox), and you’ll see a number appear on each painting.

In the drawer below the image of the white horse, a second fragment of the painting can be found.
Find the wooden box in the room, you need to enter the password to open the lock.
Enter the password (649) in the order of “White Fox” – “White Horse” – “White Mouse” to open the box and get the key.
Continue exploring ahead, past a rocking chair that swings.
After turning around 360 degrees, the scene here will change.
Next, you will encounter a green oil painting on the ground. After interacting, continue to walk along the long and narrow corridor and return to the painter’s house.
Enter a house with nothing but an empty easel.
The puzzle here is simple, you need to look at the empty easel from the front, so that you will see the other easels inside the easel.
Using this method spawns the remaining three sets of empty easels.
From inside the last spawned empty easel, you’ll spawn the key on the ground, as shown in the picture.
Pick up this key.
Next, paint the wooden door on the opposite wall from this easel.
Use the key to open the wooden door and leave the room.

In the next room, you’ll find a third painting fragment in this desk drawer.
Walk down the gallery, and after passing some tables with fruit, you’ll come to a lounge in a seemingly endless loop.
Keep an eye out for the different objects you encounter each time you enter this lounge.
Eventually you’ll find a small table with a white wine bottle on it, which you can pick up.
In the next room, swap it with another black wine bottle.
Then, in the next room, put it in the barware.
In the next room you can find the brush from the table, remember to pick it up.
Reach a room with a fireplace and use it to climb into the connecting room across the way.

In this room, you will find a pile of old oil paintings, pick up the fourth piece of oil painting.
After you finish exploring this room, follow the stairs to the basement.
You will encounter a female ghost (The Painter’s dead wife) here for the first time, but there is a high probability that you will not be caught up by her.
(The aisle is relatively dark, you can turn on the light switch at the stairway before going down the stairs)
Enter the next room and interact with the fruit painting on the wall, and the fruit will burst and overflow.
Pick up the Sharp Porcelain Shard in this painting.
In this way, you will return to the living room of the painter’s house, and this chapter has successfully concluded.
Chapter 3: Paint – Layers of Fear 2023 Walkthrough & Guide
Since you already explored the artist’s living room area in the last chapter, you just need to go back to his work room and interact with the canvas here again.
At this point you can open the first locker next to the canvas to get rewards.
After opening the door, you will once again step into the cycle of the painter’s house.

At the beginning of this level, a piece of oil painting can be found in the window.
Walking along the corridor, you can hear the sound of thunder and rain outside the house.
On this burnt couch, find and collect a code.
Next interact with the painted woman on the wall, and again with a cipher on a nearby wall.
If you have already collected the code sheet, the code will be posted to the left of the button, as shown in the picture.
After opening the cipher, watch the plot, and then go to the next room.
Use the lift to reach the next floor.

Go to the next floor and look out for a fragment of a painting in a side room.
(You can’t open this door, only about half way)
Find the mirror on the wall, go straight into the mirror, and you will come to another similar room.

In this location, you can find the third oil painting fragment of this chapter.
Then enter a well-lit corridor, and when you get to the end, the picture frames on the wall will start to peel off and even fall to the floor.
After going through 3 similar scenes, open the door at the end of the corridor.

Before leaving this hallway, watch out for a half-open door here.
After entering this room, you will find that there are many photo albums on the wall, and you can find a fragment of an oil painting on the table.
Pick up the key on the table in this room.
Use the key to open the door and enter the next themed room.
Pick up the comb on a tea table here.
After coming to the corridor where the light is gradually dimming, open the wooden box and get the picture log inside.
Enter the next room, there is a wheelchair at the entrance.
In this room you can loot water bottles and mousetrap.

In this room, a small table with a lamp can be found, from which the last oil painting fragment of this chapter can be found.
Come to the next scene, go straight down the dark corridor, and then enter a burning room.
Use the wooden ladder to reach the attic and look for the two candles in the attic.
The first candle is located inside the waste pile, and you’ll need to look for it carefully.
The second candle is on the floor near one of the candle holders.
Place two candles on either side of the mirror as shown.
Then turn around 360 degrees and you will find a new exit.
Once in the next room, pick up the oil lamp on the table.
Then the system will show the usage of oil lamp.
You can use the oil lamp to illuminate some dark rooms or corridors, and at the same time use the focus function of the oil lamp to drive away the enchanted objects and the female ghost (The Painter’s dead wife) in the house.
In addition, in later chapters, the oil lamp can help you illuminate some highlighter tips that you can’t see.
Use the focus function of the oil lamp to destroy the doll on the wooden box in this room.
Then open the wooden box and get a key from the wooden box.
Use the key to open a nearby door, then continue exploring ahead.
You’ll find the saw blade on a table next to a dark hallway.
Enter the next room, where you will encounter a scene of fire.
Eventually you’ll end up in a twisted, charred house.
At the entrance, pick up the vinyl record here and put it on the gramophone.
Go forward and enter the next wooden door, you can pick up a violin.
Then on the dressing table nearby, pick up the bone inside the table treasure box.
Finally, you will successfully return to the studio. After interacting with the oil painting, this chapter ends successfully.
Chapter 4: Brush – Layers of Fear 2023 Walkthrough & Guide
Leave the studio and continue exploring the painter’s home.
In the first and second rooms at the beginning, you can find hammers and wine bottles.
In the corridor, you will encounter an evil object, use the oil lamp to destroy it, and get a new path.

Keep going, and you will come to a relatively simple basement.
Enter the door on the right, and you can find evil objects on the shelves. After using the oil lamp to eliminate them, you will get the first piece of oil painting in this chapter.
Continue to go in, in a very long corridor, you will meet the evil spirit woman for the first time.
Use the focus function of the oil lamp to drive it away.
After exorcising, though, you’ll need to move forward quickly, because she’ll come back to life again and come after you.
When you come to this room, you will find an oil painting of a man. After interacting, pick up the glasses under the oil painting.
Keep exploring until you come to a guest room (you’ll find it upside down), and look out for a combination lock near a cupboard.
Press the light switch on the nearby door, and when it lights up, the room will turn upside down.
When the house is turned upside down, you can pick up the picture on the table and get the combination lock code.
Turn the house upside down again, interact with the combination lock, and enter the password according to the sign on the password paper (lower right of the picture).
Note that this cipher paper is upside down.
After unlocking the combination lock, pick up the key in the box, open the house door and enter the next scene.
Next you will face a puzzle room with stairs going up and down.
First, go upstairs and find a room in the middle of the floor (like a study room).

Find the interactive evil spirit object on the bookshelf, and you can get an oil painting fragment after clearing it.
Keep going down using the stairs until you find a basement.
After entering the basement, you will be taken to another scene.
When you encounter a demonic object that burns, a key and a damaged microphone will be left on the ground.
Use the key to open the treasure chest, get the note inside, and upgrade the plot.
Continue to explore the next area, you just need to follow a specific route to go forward.
Go through a series of corridors and enter a painted door.
You will then find the crowbar in this location.
When you get to the next puzzle room, pick up the rattle here.
You’ll need to find the 3-digit code for the door lock, the third digit is in a nearby drawer.
The first digit is in the pile of books in this corner.
The second digit is located in the book inside the bookcase.
After solving the password door puzzle, continue to explore the next area.
Pick up the light bulb on the windowsill here.
You’ll then come to this area, look out and collect the digit on the chest to the right of the gate.
Turn your head and explore the back road. At this time, the female evil spirit will start to entangle you.
Take it easy, explore the room you haven’t explored as much as you can, and keep track of it.
The third digit is located near a oil lamp in an abandoned house.
The first digit is on a table in another dilapidated house, where there is a oil lamp and a green vase.
After getting all the codes, quickly return to the code lock the same way. After unlocking the door, you will come to the basement area.
Find the piano in the innermost room of the basement and interact with the keys.
Then leave this room and observe the scene of all the tables and chairs hanging in the basement.
When these tables and chairs landed, they came to the piano again.
At this time, there will be a red medicine bottle item on the piano, pick it up, and the plot will upgrade.
Then, use a oil lamp to remove evil objects in the corner, read a letter, and the plot escalates again.
This way the basement will have a new path that will take you back to the painter’s house.
After finding the painting room and interacting with the oil painting, this chapter ends successfully.
You will wake up from the lighthouse and explore the lighthouse corridor.
Close the window near the stair door, the plot escalates.
Then listen to the phone again, and return to the bedroom to interact with the typewriter.
At this time, the lights in the whole house will be turned off.
You need to go to the basement, find the generator, and start it up again.
Then the kitchen door will open and you will find the eerie portrait on the wall, interact with it and answer the phone again.
Go back to the bedroom, and after interacting with the typewriter again, you will return to the painter’s house, and this chapter ends successfully.
Chapter 5: Touch – Layers of Fear 2023 Walkthrough & Guide
After returning to the studio, continue exploring the painter’s room.
Find the small shoe on the table inside the first door, interact and pick it up.
Use the light to illuminate the wall and notice, look out for the red and green lines on the wall.
This means that in this chapter, you can only choose either the red line or the green line.
Important choice!!
This will correspond to two different game endings.
Explore this room with only one lamp.
When the light goes out, use the oil lamp to illuminate the ground, look at the direction the arrow is pointing, and walk towards the door in that direction.
(do this so you don’t get lost)
Eventually you’ll come to a room with walls on all sides.
After opening each door, you will see a disappointed word, and after opening the last door, you will see an oil painting door.
Enter the world of oil paintings on fire, watch the plot, and pick up key note.
Continue to explore the next area, and you will encounter a room door outlined with an oil paintbrush.
Go through the door of this room and pick up the item on the kid’s table.

You’ll find the first fragment of the painting in this hallway, it’s on the table on the right hand side of the picture.
There is an oil lamp on the table.
Then, on the table across from this one, you can pick up a souvenir.

Go to the next room, where you will find the second oil painting fragment.
It’s sitting on a stool, and it’s an evil magician.
Follow the green marker on the ground to enter the next house.
Clear all kinds of evil objects on the way, and finally pick up the key in the box.
After using the key to open the door, you will welcome the female evil spirit again.

Don’t worry, exorcise her at the critical moment, and enter a room with candlesticks on the left and right sides of the road.
Here you can collect a fragment of an oil painting.
Go to the next puzzle-solving room, and pay attention to the direction that the “The watcher” oil painting in the room is looking at.
After several repeated “watch”, you will see that the wall becomes a children’s oil painting.
At the bottom of the oil painting, the two dolls are drinking afternoon tea and eating apples facing each other.
You need to move the table and the chairs of the two dolls in the room to the corresponding positions of the oil painting.
(You just need to align the two doll chairs with the apples on the table)
After completing the puzzle, a nearby locked door opens.
Pick up the pencil case on a small table on the way, continue to go forward, and pick up the children’s drawing on the table at the corner.
Next, you will come to the children’s lounge.
Watch out for the evil teddy bear at the window, and after the exorcism, pick up the snow globe toy.
Then enter the next children’s lounge, find the key plot items here, and directly enter the next scene after interaction.
After waking up, you will come to the burning room, find the bookshelf here, take out the evil spirit on the bookshelf, and get the toy soldier.
Next, I opened the curtains and saw ghosts outside the window, and the plot upgraded.
Go to a stair passage, there will be a labyrinth of circular scenes, you just need to keep walking various corridors.
When all the dolls are gathered on the cabinet, a nearby door will open.
Finally, after passing through a long corridor, come to the elevator and use the elevator to reach the next floor.
The puzzle solving on this floor is a bit more complicated. First, you will encounter doors in a maze-like floor with various animal symbols (these symbols are mice, cats and dogs).
After entering the innermost room of the corridor, exorcise the evil spirit items here, and you will get the “dog key”.
But at this time, the female evil spirit will start to haunt you.
Don’t be nervous, first look for the dog sign door. Some parts of this puzzle scene are connected and looped, so don’t worry about encountering a dead end.
In this room, you will find the cat key.
Continue to find the cat room, drive away the evil spirit items in it, and find the mouse key.
After using the mouse key to open the mouse room, you will get out of this maze.
Next you will come to a brightly lit children’s room.
Interact with the rotating lights here, watch the plot, and you will come to the weird children’s room after waking up.
This chapter has successfully concluded.
Touch 2
After starting this chapter, follow the mouse and you will end up in a messy hallway.
The supernatural abilities here will try their best to prevent you from moving forward, overcome your fear and move forward.
Next you will come to the window aisle, exorcise the evil spirit thing on the wall here, pull the lever.
Into the next room, the house started to catch fire.
Go to the next room, light the candle on the table, and pick up the key in the photo album.

Near the painting you can find a painting fragment.
You will make it to the lift without incident, but during its descent, a serious glitch occurs.
You need to be inside the elevator and drive away the evil spirits outside the elevator.
Note that there will be two evil objects for you to choose outside the elevator in each direction, one will cause death (red blood), and the other will be normal (blank paper).
No matter what you choose, eventually you will return to the painter’s abandoned room and pick up the handle here.

A fragment of a painting can also be found nearby from a wooden chest.
Next is a simple puzzle-solving session. When a black figure appears in front of the wooden door, don’t look back.
Go all the way to the inside of the door, lighting the candles on the way.
After lighting candles 5 times, you will escape from this puzzle scene smoothly.

Then in this area, pay attention to the bookshelf on the right side of the picture, exorcise the evil spirit items, and pick up the oil painting fragments.
Go to a room with a well chain and pull the well chain here.
Then interact with a gear here to open a nearby door and enter the next puzzle scene.
You need to find the 3 sets of gears that are missing here, as shown in the picture, the first set is on the ground in the lower right corner area.
Next start looking for the remaining gears.
But you will encounter the female evil spirit again, find the right time to exorcise it.
After going through an empty aisle, you’ll find the second set of gears.
After going down another hallway in a different direction, you’ll find the third set of gears.
Go back to the gear gate, install the two sets of gears, and the gear gate will open.
Then you will come to the next ringing phone puzzle scene.
First of all, when you first come here, you will hear the phone ringing, push open the closet nearby to find the hidden phone ringing.
This group of telephone ring codes is the number held in the portrait’s hand.
Next, go to the next set of (upstairs) telephone bells to solve the puzzle. The code for this puzzle is located on the floor looking down from the door of this telephone, as shown in the picture.
Go to a higher floor again, and you will face the third group of telephone rings to solve the puzzle.
The puzzle here corresponds to the 3 portraits behind the phone, you need to pay attention to the portrait numbers on the twisted wall opposite the gate.
Then obtain the corresponding digital password.
Continue to go upstairs, you will come to the hanging bridge, no matter what choice you make, you will eventually fall off the cliff.
When you wake up, pick up the paint that the phone turned into.
After returning to the studio room and interacting with the drawing board, this chapter ends successfully.
Chapter 6: Witness – Layers of Fear 2023 Walkthrough & Guide
You will enter the last chapter of the painter’s story.
At the beginning, exorcise all kinds of evil objects encountered on the way, and then reach the next room.
When entering the burning house, keep an eye out and collect the spoons on the shelf here.
Interact with the black rope in the center of the house to upgrade the plot.

Exorcise the evil spirits from the chair next to the fruit table and pick up pieces of the oil painting.
Keep going, at this location, you can find rat poison.
Enter a room with a weird portrait. When the portrait falls to the ground, a group of mice will go to the end of the corridor.
You need to follow them to find out.
Eventually, though, you’ll encounter a female evil spirit.
After trapping the female evil spirit, quickly return to the door next to the portrait just now.
At this point the door can be opened.
After entering the door, you will come to a long aisle. You need to exorcise evil spirits and objects all the way to get out of here smoothly.
Pay attention, at this moment, that female evil spirit is still haunting you.
Finally you will come to the living room location, pay attention to the area behind the portrait with the white light.
After circling around to that location, pick up the quest item.
Find photos near red oil lamps, interact and upgrade the plot.

Then down here in the dark passage, you’ll collect another painting fragment.
Collect wedding photos in the corner of the house, then the house will undergo some changes.
Go straight along the oil painting corridor.
You’ll find a hellhole where you can throw the bundled pictures of creepy men into hell.
Keep walking until you come to a room with a wheelchair.
Once you touch the wheelchair, the road ahead will be full of blood.
But you can also choose to bypass the wheelchair and run directly to the front door.
After leaving this room, collect the makeup foundation on the small table.

In this location, you can find another fragment of the painting.
Continue to go forward, enter the bedroom room, expel the evil teddy bear here, and get the whiskey.

On a shelf here, you can find a fragment of a painting.
Then you’ll come to the corridor area, where you’ll come across all the paintings blocking your way.
Female evil spirits appear at the same time, and then you need to drive away 3 evil spirits.
Look carefully upstairs and downstairs, in some rooms you can find these oil paintings.
Just drive them away from evil spirits.
Eventually, you lock yourself into the bathroom.
Interact with the water in the tub here 3 times, watch the episode, then pick up a cup of the powdered substance from the tub.
You will return to the painter’s house, find the pictures in the studio, interact, and watch the ending.
Ending 1: Loop – Layers of Fear 2023 Walkthrough & Guide
You will go down an endless staircase, from hell to the glorious world.
But every time the door closes for you.
You still fail countless times, and finally never see the light of the outside world again.
Hiding in the burning house all day, looking at the portrait that was about to succeed but corroded.
At the end of the game, you’ll see the warehouse filled with portraits of the same face that failed.
How to achieve the ending of the painter’s story
Ending 1: Loop – Layers of Fear 2023 Walkthrough & Guide
(Portrait of the Dead Wife)
Achievement conditions:
1. Collect notes, diaries and commemorative items as little as possible (unless these items are necessary for plot upgrades).
2. During the game, use the oil lamp to expel the dead wife at least once.
Ending 2: Art – Layers of Fear 2023 Walkthrough & Guide
(Self-Portrait)
Achievement conditions:
1. When the dead wife appears, avoid her as much as possible, don’t expel her, even if it leads to failure and restart the game.
2. In the penultimate chapter, jump into the fiery hell
